Excited to share another small milestone for open data, social good, and urban greenery enthusiasts! We've added 800+ AI-detected (and human-verified) trees to Sydney's CBD on OpenStreetMap, making it a greener and more complete resource for everyone.
π³ BEFORE & AFTER π³ Take a look at the transformation π
In the "before" image, only a few hundred trees were visible on the OpenStreetMap, mostly confined to parks, with the majority of street trees missing. In the "after" image, you can see a much-improved coverage of trees along the streets of Sydney CBD as it is in reality. ππ³
π€ The Benefits: β Enhanced green space planning ποΈ: Open data on trees enables informed decisions, enhancing green space planning and urban sustainability. β Improved walkability πΆββοΈ: Mapping trees fosters walkability, promoting health and reducing environmental impact. β Increased environmental awareness ππ³: Open data educates about tree benefits, fostering awareness and community engagement in urban greening.
At the heart of this is the spirit of giving back to the community. A small example of how AI can be harnessed for the greater good, and we are proud to be a part of it.
