Five years ago, footpath.ai started with a simple idea that pedestrian infrastructure should be as digitally accessible as road networks.
Today, we’ve processed more than 200,000 street-level images, mapped over 2,200 km of sidewalks, and extracted more than 95,000 infrastructure assets across cities in Australia and internationally.
What began as an experiment in computer vision and walkability has evolved into a growing urban data platform focused on the pedestrian environment, including crossings, curb ramps, bike parking, streetlights, benches, and accessibility infrastructure.
The interesting part is not just the scale. It’s the shift in expectations happening around pedestrian data itself. Cities increasingly expect detailed digital representations of roads, traffic, and vehicles. The pedestrian layer has historically remained fragmented, incomplete, or missing altogether. We are changing that.
Over the last five years, advances in AI, computer vision, street-level imagery, and geospatial workflows have made it possible to build richer and more scalable representations of the public realm.
