We are gradually expanding our coverage across NSW, validating and constantly improving our mapping pipeline and processes in cities with different urban forms, designs, and land use characteristics.
footpath.ai is coming to the Maitland area, NSW, Australia. We will be mapping out at least 100 km of the🚶♀️ walking infrastructure network 🚸 ♿ and assets 🌳 in the East Maitland and Maitland areas, thanks to our local youth mappers. Once completed, we will be publishing the footpath network data onto the OpenStreetMap.
Many cities in the regional areas and outer suburbs suffer from a lack of safe and connected walking infrastructure.
- Want to see more kids walking🚶♀️and cycling 🚴♀️ to school? [1]
- Want to lower obesity rates in regional areas? [2] and [3]
- Want to reduce transport emissions? [4]
- Want to improve the overall liveability of your suburb and generate more economic and public health benefits? [5]
Understanding how critical providing safe walking infrastructure is to achieve these goals doesn't require AI or anything sophisticated. It needs human intelligence. We have a long way to go for a truly net-zero way of living 🌏 in which carbon-neutral urban form, mixed land use, and well-funded active transport infrastructure become common practice.
