In collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and supported by a UNSW Global Landing Pad Mobility grant, we have successfully completed a trial and mapped nearly 100 km of walking spaces in Delhi, including the IIT campus and the surrounding areas of the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Using our DeepWalk™️ AI technology, we have captured over 8,000 walking person's view imagery and automatically identified and mapped 1,941 trees, 984 poles, 232 pedestrian crossings, 107 benches, 82 garbage bins, and 13 bike racks in the area. A 2023 Bosch India study revealed that 99% of Indian pedestrians are at risk of injury, highlighting the need for road safety measures. In 2021, nearly 30,000 pedestrians lost their lives on Indian roads. That is 80 pedestrians failing to return home every day. We hope this initiative works as a small but crucial step towards making Indian roads safer and more walkable for pedestrians by providing detailed data on walking infrastructure.
